Congress President of the 64th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Lung Cancer Society
President Ichiro Yoshino
(Professor, Department of General Thoracic Surgery, Chiba University Hospital
Director/Professor, International University of Health and Welfare Narita Hospital)

The 64th Annual Meeting of the Japan Lung Cancer Society will be held over the three days from Thursday, November 2 to Saturday, November 4, 2023 at Makuhari Messe in the city of Chiba. To head up the Annual Meeting of such a long-standing society, which has for many years driven forward the study of lung cancer in our country and contributed to Japanese society, is a sobering responsibility. I will do my utmost to offer members a venue for the full and frank presentation and discussion of steadily progressing lung cancer treatment and research achievements.

The theme of this Annual Meeting will be “Rally of Enthusiasm and Wisdom.” This expresses the way in which this Annual Meeting is essentially for doctors with a range of specialties, medical scientists, and professionals in other fields to come together with a single purpose, striving and struggling night and day and working hard together to eradicate lung cancer. As an academic meeting, its content will include advances in drug therapies, precision radiotherapy, minimally invasive surgical treatments and perioperative therapies, genomic diagnosis, the use of artificial intelligence, advances in patient support, the introduction of patient-centered care, and many other extremely interesting topics, and I must confess that despite being the organizer of the meeting, I am already very much looking forward to it.

By May 2023, COVID-19 will have been legally reclassified as a Category V disease, and the government’s views on mask-wearing are also being relaxed. Although the situation remains unpredictable, in principle this Annual Meeting will be held in person. However, we are considering making multiple sessions available for streaming on demand, including the Educational Lectures and symposia.

I and all the staff of my department at Chiba University are working as one to prepare the meeting, and are very much looking forward to your participation.
